We have put Pride Toronto 2016 to bed and are enjoying a quiet month of well-deserved rest. This was definitely a Pride for the record books.
Without having an official report it felt like the biggest parade ever. It was certainly the biggest Trans March ever. And it filled a month with wonderful panels, parties and events. Toronto Pflag had the largest turnout at our Family Brunch (double) and group marching for us in the Trans March (triple). We had the best weather (sunny with a breeze) and all three political parties at our breakfast. We had fun meeting people at our booth and got a warm and enthusiastic welcome on the parade route. As is always the case, we moved some well-wishers to tears simply by being accepting parents. This is the most moving part of marching with our group. First timers are always astounded by the reaction we get. And it is, all on its own, a call to action.
We need to do more.
Do more outreach to the North East and the North West. Get better at finding accepting parents to mentor those whose kids have just come out. Publicize our support line phone number so more people know we can help. And, celebrate our achievements.
We are committed to all of these aspirations. You can help. Volunteer, donate, and spread the word.
We can do this!
