Cartoon Rebuke. That's not funny.

On October 13th, a transphobic and offensive cartoon was published in the Toronto Star. Toronto Pflag rebuked the comic, calling out the Toronto Star, and the tweet received over 80K impressions. We were horrified to learn this cartoon appeared in over 120 newspapers. Three days after raising the issue to the Toronto Star, they reported about the incident recognizing the hurt the comic caused and acknowledged the need to review their processes. The article also included an apology from the artist.

This would not have been possible without the initial courage of our President, Anne Creighton, in standing up against transphobia and the community for engaging and applying pressure on the Toronto Star. We collectively need to recognize and stand up against injustice in all its forms. We look forward to seeing changes in the Toronto Star Editorial Process.
